WE LOVE A ROAD TRIP!
Who Are We?
Stewart and Melanie Dick.
RDTRIP is run predominantly by Stewart with Melanie providing occasional admin support alongside running our other business.
My love of all things car related and all things tourism related are what brought about RDTRIP. Growing up a petrol head, watching F1 and Rallying on TV and going to Grand Prix started my interest in cars. My dad is a petrol head too and as a kid he always had great cars which helped foster my interest. My interest in cars only grew when I got my licence at 17. I was the typical boy racer schoolboy, driving around in my 1.1l hatchback with a school blazer on the parcel shelf, this quickly led to an obsession with wanting to modify my little Citroen Saxo. Ultimately I had the trifecta of cheap boy racer mods that wouldn’t impact the insurance. A set of 16″ alloy wheels that rubbed the arches if anyone sat in the back, a poorly installed stereo that wouldn’t hold a memory of radio stations as I hadn’t connected it properly and this was all topped off with limo tints on the back windows. I thought it was the epitome of cool. Fortunately my taste has matured and I can see the beauty in a standard car.
At university I gained a degree in Hotel and Hospitality management which sparked my interest in tourism. That interest continued when I moved from Glasgow and became the manager of a small hotel on the Moray Coast. That move also led to my absolute love of the Highlands with its spectacular and varied scenery and it’s wildlife. After leaving the hospitality industry in 2007 both Melanie and I have worked in retail. I have missed hospitality and tourism just about every day since. Although, I certainly don’t miss the late nights cleaning beer lines or early mornings cooking breakfasts and cleaning rooms – often on the same day!
So why start this business?
Melanie and I love a road trip. An ideal Sunday for us is getting in the car and heading off to find somewhere for lunch and enjoy the road and the scenery while we are at it. With the popularity of the North Coast 500 and now the North East 250 bringing thousands of people to the Highlands to do much the same, we realised that there is a business opportunity. The market is well served with campervan and motor home hire companies, but we wanted to do something a little different, we want to hire cars that will really add to the experience of touring the Highlands.
